About Volunteering with LCC 

There are several ways you can volunteer with your club. Read below for a general description of our volunteer roles and feel free to reach out to any Board member or contact info@londoncyclingclub.com if you have any questions. 

Board membership 

LCC Board Members are elected at the AGM to two-year terms (although we understand that sometimes life interferes and a member can't serve for two years. That's OK!). 

Within the Board there are positions of President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary as well as several Member-at-Large positions.  
 
The Board functions as a team and each member contributes in the ways that they feel best suited. Currently, the Board is organized into the following Committees. Each with its own area of responsibilities: 

  • Mapping and Ride Operations — Reviews and updates routes and advises on ride start locations and mid-ride stops. 

  • Events — Plans club socials, seasonal gatherings and educational sessions, coordinating venues, refreshments and registration. 

  • Volunteer and Program Development — Supports ride leaders through training, onboarding and shared resources, and helps develop riding programs based on member feedback. 

  • Communications — Keeps members informed through newsletters and website updates, sharing club news, ride information, events and volunteer resources. 

  • Governance — Reviews club bylaws and recommends changes to support clear rules and appropriate financial oversight. 

  • Membership and Community Growth — Attracts and retains members through introductory rides, promotion and outreach, while exploring mentorship and community partnerships. 

Where possible, we ask each Board member to support two committees each year, based on their interests and availability. 

Time commitment as a Board Member can vary by position and time of year. The Board has a monthly in-person meeting that lasts about two hours. February, March and April can be the busiest time as we plan the start of the year events, open the club for membership and make plans for the season. Once the season is in-progress, time commitment can vary by function and interest. 

Ride Leaders 

Ride leaders are our most essential volunteers. They welcome new riders, know the route and keep the ride safe and organized. The time commitment is primarily the time during the ride plus any time in advance familiarizing themselves with the route or making other routing decisions.  

Mapping and Route Planning 

Our collective knowledge of the area's roads is one of our greatest assets. Members of the mapping and route planning committee review existing routes and make adjustments due to construction, traffic, or other issues. They also offer advice on good locations for starting and for mid-ride breaks. Time commitment can vary by interest and time of year.  

Other 

The club can use help planning events, helping with sponsorship and committee relations, communications and social media. If there is something you would like to help with or have a skill you think would benefit the club, please reach out to any Board member.

Our club meticulously plans Sunday rides, special events, and weekend tours in advance and ensures that they are promptly posted in our ride calendar. This allows members to prepare, participate, and immerse themselves in a variety of cycling experiences.

As an LCC member, you'll have access to curated ride routes that can be conveniently downloaded or printed in advance. By registering as a club member in Ride with GPS, which is a complimentary service, you can easily access and prepare for the diverse cycling routes available.

Dedicated and Welcoming Ride Leaders

The LCC takes pride in its dedicated and welcoming ride leaders who play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our club rides. Our ride leaders are known for their warm hospitality, encouragement, and adeptness at keeping our groups together. We encourage experienced members to consider volunteering as ride leaders to support the club and elevate the riding experience for all.

Social Events

In addition to the invigorating rides, the club organizes a variety of social events including pub nights and other off-the-bike meetups. Ontario Cycling Affiliation

As an Ontario Cycling affiliated club, London Cycling Club offers various benefits to its members. Additionally, being a member of Ontario Cycling provides access to insurance coverage for riders participating in sanctioned LCC rides.

Ontario Cycling membership notably includes insurance coverage that extends to riders on sanctioned LCC rides. It's important to note that this insurance coverage provides a layer of protection for members in the event of accidents or unexpected incidents during club rides. Furthermore, Ontario Cycling membership offers a range of benefits beyond insurance coverage. This partnership between London Cycling Club and Ontario Cycling not only ensures a safe and enjoyable riding experience but also provides members with added peace of mind and access to a network of resources through Ontario Cycling's membership benefits. This also allows London Cycling Club to participate and collaborate with other OC affiliated clubs and events.

Ride Registration and Management

Our integration with the CycleClub app allows for pre-ride registration, providing club officials with a clear understanding of expected ride attendance. This helps us manage the experience accordingly by allocating an appropriate number of ride leaders. Furthermore, non-ride events such as our monthly pub nights are also posted on the app, allowing members to stay updated on all club activities.

RideWithGPS Integration

Joining our club in RideWithGPS grants you access to premium features that are normally locked behind a subscription. This includes the ability to download routes from the LCC library to your device for offline use. Additionally, you can benefit from audio cues when navigating LCC routes during your rides, enhancing your overall cycling experience.

Connection on Strava

We also offer the option to join our club on Strava, providing a platform for easier connectivity with other cyclists within the club. It’s important to note that while this is optional, our presence on Strava is primarily for social networking and connecting with fellow members. London Cycling Club emphasizes a non-competitive atmosphere, and we encourage the use of this platform for social networking purposes within the club's community.
